Samsung is still pushing ahead with launching a Tizen based smartphone despite dwindling support from other partners.
Samsung's senior vice president of product strategy, Yoon Han-kil, told Reuters that the first model will be aimed at the high-end market while the second will be a mid-range device.
Tizen based smartphones had been expected last year, but has been plagued with repeated delays. The company however maintains that the delays were intentional as it felt the market was not ready.
"We had tried to launch (Tizen) with DoCoMo and Orange ... but couldn't because of poor market conditions." he said.
It's not clear what has changed to make the market more receptive to aTizen phone now.
Recently, Japan's NTT DoCoMo said that it would no longer commit to carrying the smartphones, citing a lack of demand from consumers for an alternative to the big two of Android and Apple.
Yoon Han-kil also said that the company will still release most of its handsets using the Android OS, and will also support Windows Phone where it identifies market niches.
