TV shows, movies and sporting events can now be watched or recorded by clicking a tweet.
Sky TV customers who see the hashtag #WatchOnSky on a tweet from a Sky channel's Twitter account can expand the message to reveal 'watch' and 'record' icons.
Pressing the record button activates the function on a connected Sky+HD box, while pressing the watch icon opens the Sky Go app.
BSkyB, the owner of Sky News, is the first UK broadcaster to use the technology.
Luke Bradley-Jones, brand director of TV products at Sky, said: "#WatchOnSky is another brilliantly simple way for our customers to find and watch the shows everyone is talking about."
Twitter called the feature a "really exciting development".
