French mobile network operator SFR is reportedly set to announce a marketing alliance with Vodafone within the next few days.
SFR is currently owned by Vivendi which recently agreed to sell it to the French cable operator, Numericable.
"In coming days, we will unveil an extended partnership with Vodafone... (in which) our professional clients will have access to the Vodafone network everywhere in the world," SFR Chief Executive Jean-Yves Charlier told Le Figaro daily.
The deal sounds as though it will be similar to the Vodafone partnerships that the company signs with a number of mobile networks, offering preferential access to the Vodafone network when roaming and access to its buying power for services.
Vodafone was in fact a shareholder in SFR until it sold the 44% stake in April 2011. Before that, the two companies had often collaborated on cross-marketing efforts. They jointly developed the Vizzavi branded mobile web services in 2000, but Vivendi sold it's half to Vodafone in 2002.
Vodafone later closed down the service, although a decade later, it still owns the domain name for the service.
Based on my previous experience working with Vodafone Group I would like to mention that it is a renewal of an existing partnership rather than a new marketing agreement.
