Public Mobile a Canadian mobile network that was recently bought by Telus has announced that it is closing down its CDMA infrastructure and migrating customers to the Telus service.
Public Mobile is one of the three small struggling mobile networks set up following the 2008 radio spectrum auction, and has around 280,000 customers.
The mobile network has operations in Ontario and Quebec, but was bought by Telus last October and the migration of the customer base had been expected.
In a statement on its website, Public Mobile said that customers would need to buy a new handset and will be offered deals on three models.
Public Mobile's G block spectrum aligns with matching spectrum that Telus holds in western Canada. It is expected that Telus will close down the CDMA service and reuse the spectrum to bolster its LTE network.
