UK based mobile network EE says that it is launching a service that somehow tracks mobile users in retail stores and provides that information in some manner to the retailer to help them plot something.
It would appear from the marketing laden press release that the company put out that it offers heat maps of the stores than can anticipate queues at the checkout before they arrive.
The company added that by using an unspecified "wireless connectivity specifically for use in a retail environment", it can also deliver location based advertising to consumers while they are in the retail store.
EE added that it is already working with the supermarket chain, Asda to deploy the service which seems to be tapping into the retailer's existing in-store Wi-Fi network.
The company also cited a study that claims that nearly three-quarters of consumers will walk out of the store if they have to wait more than 5 minutes to make a purchase. A fact, which if true, would probably put the average supermarket out of business.
