BlackBerry which currently needs all the customers it can get has announced that it will not renew an agreement with T Mobile in the USA to resell its mobile phones.
T-Mobile's license to sell BlackBerry products expires in just a few weeks time -- on April 25, 2014.
The two companies had a fairly public falling out recently when T-Mobile USA targeted its existing BlackBerry users with the offer of an upgrade to Apple's iPhone. Although T-Mobile modified the offer to include a newer BlackBerry handset, the publicity was very damaging to BlackBerry.
"BlackBerry has had a positive relationship with T-Mobile for many years. Regretfully, at this time, our strategies are not complementary and we must act in the best interest of our BlackBerry customers. We hope to work with T-Mobile again in the future when our business strategies are aligned," said BlackBerry CEO and Executive Chair, John Chen.
BlackBerry added that it is working with other mobile network operators to provide consumers and business users with alternatives should they decide to transition to another carrier and remain with BlackBerry for their long-term device and service needs.
